The title of this blog, The Zero's Journey, while incredibly self deprecating, is the central theme I am trying illustrate of the development of my life through this blog. I will cover the topics that interest me, as I seek to become the "Hero" of my own life. I will be writing about all of the various subjects that interest me. Such as, my goals to hit some personal records in the gym and be more physically fit, as well as intellectual goals, talking about TED talks, my own book that I plan to write, other books that I am currently reading. Male fashion, movies, food and any experiences I have that I deem worthy to share and glean information from through reflection I will likely share on this blog.
I got the idea of the "Zero's Journey" from my favorite Disney movie as a kid, Hercules. Disney's Hercules is incredibly different from the mythological Hercules as it rather tells of an awkward boy born with great strength who strives to finally find the place where he belongs among the gods at Mt. Olympus. My favorite scene from this movie was the "Zero to Hero" sequence, which shows Hercules beating up a variety of monsters, finally fulfilling his potential (rather than using his strength to accidently destroy his hometown). The concept of the "Zero's Journey" as opposed to the typical Hero's journey takes from this first, often overlooked, half of Hercules and the heroes journey in general in which he becomes the man that is capable of these great heroic acts. At this point in my life, I find that I am in this very phase. I am 18 years old and nearly 19, I have no real accomplishments to date, but great stores of motivation and untapped talents waiting to be applied. I recognize that I am a man now, and can no longer rely on others for my behalf. I am now seeking my own passions and livelihood. Hercules had his own calling in life to be the people's hero. I seek only to be the hero of myself, to redeem myself from weakness and failure. I am lucky to be in a situation where I have very little tying me down, and so much potential for growth. I have a great number of fantastic ideas for this blog, and hope that if you read this you will join me in the journey!
